Sponsoring a child
Each year The Midwest Comicon sponsors a child and brings their name and condition into the light. The child selected will receive financial help from a portion of the convention proceeds from that year. That gift can be used to help with hospital bills, utility bills, or anything that may relieve the financial burden and give them hope. This is a powerful way The Midwest Comicon can give back to the community as well as give others a great cause to get behind and support.
The 2016 Midwest Comicon V.I.P. is Talon!!

Many of these club members will be traveling from all over Iowa and beyond so YOU will bring your families to The Midwest Comicon 2016. Your attendance will make all the difference in the world. See you in November!
The 2015 Midwest Comicon V.I.P is Tyler cross!

This is Tyler Cross. A resident at Blank Childrens Hospital, he has had a room there not for days or months, but for years. Tyler has Epidermolysis bullosa.
EB is an inherited connective tissue disease causing blisters in the skin and mucosal membranes. It is a result of a defect in the anchoring between the epidermis and dermis, resulting in friction and skin fragility. It's severity ranges from mild to lethal.
"Butterfly Children" is a term often used to describe younger patients because the skin is said to be as fragile as a butterflies wings; Also known as "Cotton Wool Babies" or (in South America) as "Crystal Skin Children".
Tyler had an older brother who passed away in his early twenties from the same desease. Despite everything this young man has lost and continues to deal with on a daily basis, he is the first person to help from his hospital bed.
Last year Tyler played a major role in helping to organize the fulfillment of a wish through Make-A-Wish. With the help of Allen K., he was visited by the Iowa League of Heroes to talk about a plan. It was because of Tyler that a hero known as Super Sheyla had her wish granted by defeating a villian called Kill-O-Watt.
At the hospital where he stays, Tyler is often thinking of others when special events take place such as ice-cream socials. He makes sure all the other kids on his floor get in on all the special treats.
He has personally met local celebrities, Tv hosts, professional football players and super heroes to name a few. He receives encouraging fan mail from hundreds of people as well as gifts from military, special forces, FBI, CIA and on and on. Without a doubt, Tyler is a prime example of how everyone can help others no matter what.
A note to the V.I.G.s of The Midwest Comicon: Tyler is a big fan of zombies and his favorite show is The Walking Dead. His favorite Super Hero is Spiderman and his favorite football team is the Dallas Cowboys. Should ANY of you feel so moved, some custom swag would be the iceing on the cake for this real life hero.
